UNICEF in Covid-19 Vaccination Drive

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has challenged G7 countries to donate surplus Covid-19 jabs to vulnerable nations before they expire, ENN reports.

In an open letter to G7 leaders, which was backed by UNICEF ambassadors and celebrities including Kate Perry, Billie Eilish, Orlando Bloom, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Whoopi Goldberg, UNICEF reiterated that the pandemic will not be over anywhere until it is over everywhere.

UNICEF also mentioned that a steady donation of excess vaccines throughout the year is needed because poor countries do not have the capacity to use them all if donated at once. According to UNICEF, a donation of 20 per cent of current vaccine stocks by G7 nations would not significantly disrupt their vaccination rollout efforts. UK and others have promised to donate their surplus doses as the mutation of new variants have made world leaders accept that the pandemic will not be over anywhere until it is over everywhere.
