Ford Motor Co. announced Wednesday that it sold 500,504 new vehicles in the United States in the third quarter of this year, up 7.7 percent from 464,674 units in the same period of last year.
To be specific, Ford sold 444,681 internal combustion engine vehicles in the third quarter, up 5.4 percent year on year; 20,962 electric vehicles (EVs), up 14.8 percent; and 34,861 hybrid vehicles, up 41.4 percent.
Ford’s U.S. vehicle sales grew 9.2 percent year on year in the first nine months of this year.
Ford remained the No. 1 selling truck manufacturer in the third quarter, with its F-Series sales rising 13.4 percent on sales of 190,477 units. Year to date, F-Series sales totalled 573,370 units, outselling the second-place Silverado by 169,949 units.
Ford’s overall truck sales, including pickups and vans, were 275,554 units in the third quarter of this year, 15.3 percent year on year. With 825,179 pickups and vans sold in the first nine months of this year, Ford outsold GM’s pickups and vans by approximately 64,000 units.
As America’s best-selling hybrid truck, Ford sold 12,311 F-150 Hybrid in the third quarter, up 46.9 percent year on year.
“We saw strong balanced sales growth providing choice to our customers in the third quarter, with growth coming from our gas engine, electric, hybrid and commercial van lineup,” Andrew Frick, Ford’s vice president of sales, distribution and trucks, said in a statement. Year to date, Ford has been America’s best-selling brand.
The effects of the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike against the Big Three U.S. automakers beginning Sept. 15 are yet to show up, market analysts hold.
