Zimbabwe received vital support in its battle against cholera as the World Health Organization (WHO) recently delivered a range of supplies and medications aimed at aiding the country’s efforts.
During the handover of the aid to Zimbabwean Health and Child Care Minister, Douglas Mombeshora, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Matshidiso Moeti, emphasized the WHO’s commitment to halting the outbreak before the expected surge in holiday travel.
Moeti stressed the need for intensified collective action, community mobilization, and swift transportation to treatment facilities to ensure timely and life-saving care for affected individuals.
Expressing urgency, Mombeshora highlighted the significance of the donation in combating the epidemic and underscored progress in addressing the water crisis that had hindered efforts in Kuwadzana, the outbreak’s epicentre in Harare.
As per the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe had reported 9,895 suspected cholera cases by November 30, with 9,466 recoveries and 53 confirmed fatalities.
