Algeria and Turkey solidified their commitment to strengthened bilateral cooperation on Tuesday by sealing 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and Erdogan signed a joint declaration during the second meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council between the two nations. Among the agreements were 12 MOUs and a pact between Algeria’s state news agency and Turkey’s Anadolu Agency. These agreements encompass various domains such as space, culture, education, energy, hospitals, media, and consumer protection, aiming to foster enhanced collaboration.
In a joint press conference held at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, Erdogan expressed satisfaction with the robust relations between their countries, projecting an increase in bilateral trade to $6 billion by the year’s end, with aspirations to reach the targeted $10 billion mark.
Addressing the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, both presidents underscored the imperative to hold “Israeli officials accountable before the International Criminal Court for the atrocities committed in the Gaza Strip.”
Tebboune stressed the importance of turning condemnation into decisive actions to halt Israeli expansionism and curb “settler terrorism against Palestinians,” particularly in the West Bank.
Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s opposition to the Israeli assaults in Gaza, denouncing them as “collective punishment and war crimes.” He highlighted Turkey’s priorities in Gaza, aiming for a lasting ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.
The Turkish president arrived earlier in Algeria on Tuesday for a one-day official visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties between the two nations.
