HARARE – Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has gone on leave, a statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet said on Wednesday.
The statement by acting chief Secretary in the President’s Office, George Charamba, said Mnangagwa will not leave the country during his vacation.
Zimbabwe is facing it worst economic crisis in a decade, which has been compounded by prospects of a serious drought, reportedly affecting over four million people.
This could be why Mnangagwa would state in his country, experts said, noting that her had to monitor the situation closely.
Charamba said during Mnangagwa’s absence, his two Vice presidents, Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi will take turns to act in his capacity.
“The office of the president and cabinet wishes to advise that his excellency the President, Cde ED Mnangagwa, has started his annual vacation which runs for the next three weeks until the end of the month. During this period, Honourable Vice Presidents General (Rtd) Dr C.G.D.N Chiwenga and Colonel Cde K.C.D Mohadi will take turns in his place starting with honourable vice president Chiwenga. The President will spend his vacation in the country,” Charamba said.
