Government launches National Development Strategy 1(NDS1)

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the National Development Strategy 1(NDS1) the new socio-economic blueprint that will guide national programming from 2021-2025.

The NDS1 is a successor to the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP): October 2018-December 2020, which is the first blueprint to be developed under the 2nd Republic to stabilise the economy and move towards Vision 2030.

President Mnangagwa said the construction, rehabilitation and modernisation of key infrastructure will continue with greater speed under the NDS1.

“Riding on the momentum realised during the phase of the TSP, the construction, rehabilitation and modernisation of key infrastructure will continue with greater speed under the NDS1. The focus will be on strategic infrastructure in energy, water and sanitation, ICT and transport sectors which enable Zimbabwe to be more efficient and competitive,” he said.

The NDS1, therefore, marks the second phase of operationalising Vision 2030, in the next five years.

NDS1 outlines the policies, legal and institutional reforms and the programmes and projects that will be implemented over the five years, 2021–2025, to achieve accelerated, high, inclusive, broad-based and sustainable economic growth as well as socio-economic transformation and development.

“The NDS1 will therefore be rolled out under better economic conditions than the TSP and carries with it bold strategies and policies to catapult economic growth,” Mnangagwa said.
