Xiaomi Officially Announces Partnership with Leica Ending the Huawei-Leica Deal

Xiaomi officially confirmed the kick-off of the strategic partnership with Leica. The well-known camera imaginary enhancing technology company is based in Germany.

Meanwhile, Huawei has confirmed that the strategic partnership with Leica ended on March 31.

Huawei and Leica had run for a long while, hand in hand and the journey of these two partners started with the launch of the Huawei P9 in 2016. The partnership managed to produce the top Huawei flagship mobile phones.

Huawei and Leica have cobranded and launched many phones and enhanced the photography quality for smartphone users. The Huawei P50 series is currently the last flagship Huawei Leica-powered smartphone.

Leica had a good partnership with Huawei, but since the Chinese company is still being affected by various US Government bans, it makes sense that Leica would want to try other things hence their official partnership with Xiaomi.

According to their joint press release, “Xiaomi and Leica share the same ideas regarding mobile imaging”, and they’re both eager to take mobile photography to the next level. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said: “Xiaomi focuses on creating the ultimate user experience, and has always hoped to explore the capabilities of smartphone photography to the extreme. Xiaomi and Leica agree with each other’s pursuits and ideas” and their cooperation involves optical design as well as “tuning aesthetic orientations”.
