Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway Aims for 31,000 Daily Passengers

The Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway (HSR), marking a groundbreaking development in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, has established an ambitious goal of catering to 31,000 passengers daily in the upcoming year. PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC), a collaborative effort between Indonesian and Chinese state-owned enterprises responsible for constructing and managing the HSR, shared this target.

Emir Monti, KCIC’s manager of corporate communications, informed local media on Wednesday that the HSR, affectionately known as Whoosh, is capable of accommodating 31,000 passengers with 68 daily trips, as determined by a study conducted by the University of Indonesia. Monti highlighted ongoing efforts by KCIC to augment trip frequencies, enhance station services and facilities, and introduce enticing promotions for passengers.

Presently, the HSR operates at a limited capacity of 40 trips per day, serving between 15,000 and 17,000 passengers daily. Monti emphasized a gradual escalation in trip frequency, occupancy rates, and service enhancements shortly.

Since its official commercial launch in October of the previous year, Whoosh has successfully transported over 1.3 million passengers, according to Monti. He expressed optimism, citing the heightened public demand for modern transportation over the past three months, and anticipated a continual surge in passenger numbers.

The 142.3 km HSR, boasting a design speed of 350 km per hour, dramatically reduces travel time between Jakarta and Bandung in West Java province from over three hours to a mere 40 minutes. Monti noted the positive response, emphasizing the comfort that people feel in utilizing this high-speed train for day trips to Bandung or one-day business ventures in Jakarta.
