BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. and Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd. have announced a groundbreaking collaboration, unveiling plans to form a 50:50 joint venture in China. This alliance aims to operate an advanced high-power charging network, offering premium charging services tailored for Chinese customers.
Leveraging their global and local expertise in charging infrastructure and their profound insights into the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market, both BMW and Mercedes-Benz pledge to deliver swift, dependable, and personalized charging solutions. The primary goal is to significantly enhance the public charging experience for consumers.
The joint venture is ambitious, with a target of establishing a network comprising a minimum of 1,000 high-power charging stations equipped with approximately 7,000 high-power charging piles by the culmination of 2026. These stations, employing cutting-edge charging technologies, are anticipated to commence operations in 2024 in key NEV hubs, followed by a nationwide rollout.
While the premium charging network will be accessible to the general public, BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz Group clientele will enjoy exclusive perks. These privileges include features like plug & charge and online reservation, ensuring a seamless and digitally integrated experience. Additionally, the joint venture is committed to sourcing electricity from renewable sources where feasible, fostering a sustainable and eco-conscious charging ecosystem.
However, it’s essential to note that regulatory approval is necessary to finalize this impactful collaboration.
