Gweru – The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) has challenged miners to empower youths through fully utilizing their mining claims in the country, ENN reports.
Speaking at the Youth Miners Association workshop in Gweru, ZMF vice president Marufu Sithole said that unlocking the value of disused mining claims was good for the economy as it would create employment and generate foreign currency.
“Artisanal and small-scale miners have been for years marginalised and yet Zimbabwe has over the years been faced with a high rate of youth unemployment”, said Marufu. “We endeavour to see all other like-minded people equipped with skills in mining and claims towards poverty reduction,” Marufu further said in his remarks. He bemoaned the high unemployment levels amongst Zimbabwean youths, and picked on mining sector growth as a panacea to this national unemployment scourge. To align to this youth employment call ZMF now has a Secretariat for the youth, which is expected to enhance youth representation and participation in mining.
