DAR ES SALAAM: The United States of America has provided US $176million to support the country in its fight against malaria, ENN reports.
Tanzania in support of Tanzania’s Anti Malaria Campaign in the past four years.
This financial support was confirmed by Tanzania Mission Director Andy Karas, who thanked the United States President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) for supporting Tanzania’s efforts in the fight against malaria.
The President’s Malaria Initiative partnered with Tanzania to fight Malaria in 2006, and has made cumulative contributions of US$ 176 million in the last four years. Availed funds were used for delivery of pesticides, treated bed nets and life-saving medicines. Through this fund, more than 4 700 health workers in Tanzania have been trained.
Karas also said that the efforts by the government had helped to sustain essential malaria services, in the process saving many lives.
“Our support aligns with Tanzania’s priorities outlined in Vision 2025 of focusing on developing human capital as well as institutions and systems which the government sees as critical to achieving and sustaining its long-term vision,” Karas further said.
