HARARE– Zimbabwe’s former Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa took up the role of Air Zimbabwe (AirZim) chairman on Monday, beginning the difficult task of rebuilding an airline that has been ruined by mismanagement and government interference.
“His excellence, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has appointed comrade Patrick Chinamasa as chairman of the board of directors of Air Zimbabwe,” said Misheck Sibanda, chief secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet.
“Comrade Chinamasa, who is ZANU PF secretary for finance, has served the Government of Zimbabwe in several governmental portfolios including that of Minister of Finance and Economic Development,” Sibanda said.
Chinamasa’s immediate role will be helping the airline acquire new aircraft and redeveloping its route network.
