HARARE – Zimbabwe’s Energy and Power Development Minister Jorum Gumbo has been fired and replaced by Fortune Chasi, a deputy minister in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
A statement released Tuesday night said Gumbo was immediately reappointed to the lesser influential Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs responsible Implementation and Monitoring of policies.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been under fire to address a crippling shortage of fuel that has gone on for the past ten months, and looks unlikely to relent in the near future.
He hopes that by reshuffling personnel, Zimbabwe can return to normalcy.
President Mnangagwa also appointed engineer Mackenzie Ncube as chairman of the National Oil Infrastructure Company (NOIC) board. He replaces Jemias Madzingira who has been retired.
