Cambodia exported garments, footwear, and travel goods worth $6.246 billion in the first half of 2024, marking a 16.5% increase from $5.360 billion during the same period last year, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce released on Tuesday.
The report highlighted that garment exports reached $4.569 billion from January to June, an 18.4% rise compared to $3.8585 billion in the same period last year. Footwear exports totaled $774 million, up 10.4% from $700.6 million, while travel goods exports amounted to $903 million, a 12.7% increase from $801 million.
In its recent economic update, the World Bank projected a 5.8% economic growth for Cambodia in 2024, emphasizing the significant contribution of the GFT sector to this growth. “Exports of garments, travel goods, and footwear rebounded, while non-garment exports, especially of agricultural commodities, remained resilient,” the World Bank stated.
The GFT industry remains Cambodia’s largest foreign exchange earner, comprising about 1,538 factories and branches and employing approximately 913,000 workers, predominantly female, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.
